Cheryl Kurash, Ph.D., a licensed clinical psychologist, has been a student and practitioner of meditation for over 25 years. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Yale University Department of Psychiatry in psychoanalytic clinical psychology and has served as the Coordinator of the Mindfulness Program at the Counseling and Psychological Services,  Stony Brook University;  Director of APA Psychology Internship Training at SBU; and has held faculty appointments at SUNY and Hofstra Universities. Cheryl is recently certified in Lifeguarding by the American Red Cross and studies Total Immersion Swimming.

Cheryl rediscovered the joy of swimming in midlife when she realized the organic extension of mindfulness to movement in water.  She finds it natural to enhance the rhythmic strokes of swimming with mindfulness meditation principles and practices and is especially intrigued by the application of breath awareness in water. Systematic self study, experimentation, teaching and writing have all contributed to the development of SwM over the past several years.  She offers workshops, consultation and private instruction to those who are interested and continues to write on the central dimensions of a swimming meditation practice.
