General Workshop Description

Workshops vary according to location and participants' levels of mindfulness and swimming experience.  Workshops may involve both land and water instructions, depending upon venue.  Each session begins with a discussion and instruction in mindfulness meditation.  We practice mindful movement and sitting meditation, either on land or around the pool.  When the key concepts of mindfulness are understood by everyone in the group, we extend specific applications to water. This includes appreciating the healing potential of immersion in water, learning to "feel" the water, mindful movements and stretching, breathing techniques uniques to swimming meditation, and specific practices.

The intention of the workshops is to facilitate participants' ability in developing their own unique mindfulness practice in water.  Swimmers may learn an entirely new focus for their swimming exercise; meditators may learn how to apply mindfulness to swimming in a way that extends their meditation practice.  The combination of swimming nad meditation is synergistic, each enhancing the other.  This practice actively engages both body and mind in a way that improves health, increases focus, concentration and awareness.

Workshops can be geared to all levels, from advanced swimmers to those who do not consider themselves to be "swimmers" and may even experience some fear of water.
