Swimming Meditation

Swim for your Life!

Welcome to Swimming Meditation TM

Swimming Meditation (SwM) is as simple as it sounds. It is a practice that organically integrates the basic strokes of swimming with mindfulness meditation. By combining meditation with swimming, SwM works synergistically and enhances the significant health benefits of both swimming and meditation.

The practice of SwM includes an appreciation and understanding of the healing power of water; mindfulness of the body in water; the application of beginning and more advanced mindfulness/meditative practices to various swimming strokes; and learning specific postures and strokes conducive to meditation. If you would like to reap the rewards of a low-impact aerobic exercise and mindfulness meditation, then SwM might be right for you.

For Whom is SwM Intended?

SwM is intended for anyone with a basic knowledge of swimming (workshops do not include teaching beginning swimming - it is assumed that participants already know a basic crawl or breaststroke) who would like to enhance their swimming experience by combining it with meditation, and/or experienced meditators who would like to experience the synergistic impact of combining meditation with swimming.

What are the Benefits of SwM?

Swimming meditation has many significant physical and mental/emotional benefits. The health benefits of swimming are well known and include: cardiovascular fitness, lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol levels, increased energy, loss of body fat, decreased depression and anxiety. In addition, salt water swimming has beneficial effects on skin, hair and sinuses.

The research on the medicinal impact of mindfulness meditation is compelling. Meditation helps to increase attention and concentration; increase mental clarity and equanimity; regulate moods; decrease anxiety; decrease depression; reduce high blood pressure; alleviate psoriasis; and alter brain waves in the direction of more positive, optimistic thinking.
